The unique stamp of St. Joseph’s College, Moolamattom is that it is a CMI institution endeavouring to fulfil the great dream of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of the Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), in the backward district of Idukki. Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara was a prominent educationalist and social reformer of the 19th century. He was instrumental in starting a string of schools all over Kerala aimed at educating the backward and neglected classes of people.
The CMI congregation is pledged to selfless service in the field of education, culture, health care and many other social activities. St. Joseph’s College, Moolamattom is a premier educational institution that comes under the St. Joseph’s province of the CMI congregation. The heavenly patron of the College is St. Joseph, who is also the patron of the entire province. The college started in 1981 is presently affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.
